UAL or Ultrasonic Assisted Liposuction is variation of tumescent liposuction that uses high-pitched sound waves to "melt" or liquefy fat before it is suctioned out. Ultrasonic Liposuction, like laser assisted liposuction (SmartLipo) is an added technique combined with tumescent liposuction.

Like traditional liposuction, Ultrasonic Lipo uses a thin, vacuum-like tube, called a cannula to suction out fat. With Ultrasonic Lipo, this cannula also channels sound waves to the fat cells. Fat cells treated with Ultrasonic Lipo "melt" and quickly become emulsified in the tumescent fluid. This makes it easier to suction out the fat deposits. This helps make Ultrasonic Lipo, best suited for areas that are hard to treat or areas that require precise body contouring.

Tumescent fluid: A sterile mixture of anesthetic, saline (salt water solution), and epinephrine, injected into an area being treated by liposuction. Tumescent fluid helps anesthetize the treated areas and prevents fluid loss during the fat removal process, in addition to making the deposits easier to remove.

Ultrasonic liposuction can be used in all areas that can be treated by traditional liposuction treats, in addition to the harder to treat areas such as the chin, neck, cheeks, knees, calves, and ankles, and areas with higher volumes of dense fat deposits. Ultrasonic lipo also tightens the skin which can help avoid the excess, baggy skin sometimes left behind by other liposuction techniques. be sure to discuss all of the benefits, side effects and risks of Ultrasonic Lipo with a qualified liposuction doctor in your area.

If you're looking to remove unwanted fat deposits in hard to treat areas, or more common areas such as the stomach, abdomen, "love handles", male breast, chin or neck, you can start by locating a liposuction doctor or plastic surgeon "in my area" using our provider directory or you can Request a Consultation with one or more plastic surgeons right here from our site.

Women who are unhappy with the fullness of their breasts, or with drooping or sagging of the breast may be interested in a Breast Lift (Mastopexy). A woman may consider a Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation (breast implants), or a combination of the two procedures, to help restore the breasts to a more youthful appearance and address drooping and sagging breasts.

The best way to decide which procedure will help address your needs and meet your aesthetic goals is to discuss them with a qualified plastic surgeon in your area. To help with your plastic surgery consultation, here's a few guidelines to how your surgeon may determine the best procedure for you.

Which procedure would be best?

Surgeons offering plastic surgery to address drooping or sagging breasts measure and categorize the degree of drooping and sag by where the nipple sits in relation to the the inframammary fold, the crease under the breast where the breast meets the chest and rib cage.

Drooping and sagging of the breast is the result of a naturally occurring laxity in the tissue, ligaments and skin of the breasts, medically referred to as Ptosis. Ptosis is a part of the body's natural aging process. Drooping and sagging of the breasts, is influenced by several factors including pregnancy, breastfeeding, significant weight gain followed by a weight loss, age and the overall size of the breasts (larger breasts are more prone to sagging and drooping over time).

This measurement is one of the main factors in determining the need for a Breast Lift versus a Breast Augmentation or combination procedure.

  • If a woman's nipple sits above her inframammary fold, she does not have ptosis and a breast lift may not be needed. Women whose nipples rest above the inframammary crease often benefit from a Breast Augmentation over a lift.
  • If a woman's nipple sits at or below her inframammary fold, her breasts do have ptosis and a Breast Lift may help.
  • If a woman's nipple sits at or above the inframammary fold, but the bottom portion of the breast sits below the fold, this is referred to as pseudo-ptosis. Depending on the degree of droop or sag and the overall size of the breasts, a Breast Lift or a combination Breast Lift with Implants may be required.
You can also try this at home by placing a ruler under the breast at the inframammary crease and letting the breast hang over the ruler. If you are doing it right, the top edge of the ruler is the line where your inframammary fold would be.

If you're unhappy with drooping or sagging breasts, or if you feel that your breast appear "deflated" or lack volume following a pregnancy or weight loss, and are interested in restoring or improving the appearance of your breasts, you can start by locating a plastic surgeon "in my area" using our provider directory or you can Request a Consultation with one or more plastic surgeons right here from our site.

CoolSculpting™  by ZELTIQ™ is a new, non-invasive way reduce fat in targeted areas of the body. The Zeltiq® Coolsculpting procedure differs from traditional liposuction, SmartLipo in that it is non-invasive (no needles, surgical incisions, anesthesia or recovery time) and unlike Zerona, it uses "advanced cooling technology" instead of a laser to selectively target and reduce unwanted abdominal fat, love handles (flanks), and back fat.

Non-Invasive ‘Cold’ Technology

The Coolsculpting procedure works using a precisely controlled cooling method called Cryolipolysis™ to target, cool, and eliminate fat cells without damage to other tissue. During the one to three hour procedure, a non-invasive applicator is applied to the skin surface where it gently draws the fat bulge up between two cooling panels. As treatment begins, the patient feels a sensation of intense cold which reportedly dissipates after a short time. The CoolSculpting procedure is also comfortable for most patients, who read, listen to music, use a laptop or simply relax during treatment. Without a recovery time, patients can typically resume their routine activities, including returning to work and exercise regimens on the same day as the procedure.

Fat cells that are targeted by the intense cooling begin a process called “apoptosis” where the fat cells shrink. This damages the fat cells without harming the surrounding tissues. The crystallized fat cells are then naturally removed by the body's normal processes over the course of roughly two to four months.

The Cool Way to Reduce Fat™

The CoolSculpting™ procedure* is performed in a doctor’s office, typically under the supervision of a dermatologist or plastic surgeon and is reported to be effective for gently and effectively treating localized areas of fat. The Coolsculpting procedure cannot remove large amounts of fat and patience is required, as it does take time to see noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction results. The number of Zeltiq® Coolsculpting treatments needed varies from aptient to patient, and prices vary by region. On average, patients can expect to pay between $500 - $700 per treatment.

*CoolSculpting™ by ZELTIQ™ is not currently FDA approved in the US.
