CoolSculpting Receives FDA Clearance

Recently we discussed CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ™, a new, non-invasive treatment for reducing unwanted fat in diet-resistant problem areas. Today, CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ™ received FDA clearance for patented, non-invasive cooling treatment for fat reduction.

Unlike traditional liposuction, laser liposuction and other invasive procedures used for fat reduction and body contouring, CoolSculpting is non-invasive and requires no needles, surgical incisions or downtime. CoolSculpting boasts a 20% reduction of fat in treated areas, and some patients can start to see results as soon as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results occurring over a period of two to four months in most patients. A fat reduction treatment using CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ™ can last from one to two hours. On average, patients can expect to pay between $500 - $700 per CoolSculpting treatment

CoolSculpting uses the controlled application of cold to safely and selectively target the cells in the underlying fat layer without harming the skin or other tissues. CoolSculpting is based on extensive scientific research demonstrating that fat cells are more susceptible to extreme cold and are selectively, painlessly, and permanently destroyed in a process known as Cryolipolysis (cold lipolysis). By applying intense cold to fat cells treated by CoolSculpting are painlessly eliminated via a natural process called apoptosis. Within several weeks of the procedure, the destroyed fat cells shrink and disappear.

CoolSculpting by ZELTIQ is not intended as a weight-reduction program for overweight individuals. The best candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure are people near their ideal body weight who eat well and exercise regularly and have pockets of fat that have not responded to a healthy lifestyle.
