A Lower Bodylift, also known as a Belt Lipectomy is a combination procedure for rescultping and transforming the mid and lower body. Commonly performed on post-bariatric plastic surgery patients and patients who have experienced a significant weight loss, a Lower Bodylift includes a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Thigh Lift and sometimes, a Buttock Lift. When combined with other procedures above the mid section of the body, the Lower Bodylift becomes a Total Bodylift.
The best candidates for a Lower Bodylift have:
- recently experienced significant weight loss or are post-bariatric patients
- maintained a stable weight for at least 12 months
- loose, sagging or otherwise excess skin in the lower abdominal area
- loose or sagging skin in the buttocks and back of the thighs
- loose or sagging skin in the inner thigh area and front of the thighs
- loose or sagging skin on the side of the thighs and in the hip area
- small amounts of fat in the fat layer below the skin
Patients should be accepting of the fact that they will have scarring following surgery. Permanent, sometimes extensive scars around the waistline are common with a Lower Bodylift. During your consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaulate your body shape and the amount of loose skin and excess fat you have. They will discuss the amount of scarring you may or may not have as a result of a Lower Bodylift and the risks associated with such an extensive surgical procedure.
The full extent of any Lower Bodylift depends upon your individual anatomy, your goals and expectations, and the recommendations, experience and skill of your plastic surgeon.
