SmartLipo (Laser Liposuction)

What to Expect After Surgery (Post-Op)

Because SmartLipo uses only local anesthesia, rather than the general anesthesia of a traditional liposuction operation, there is minimal downtime. You will receive pain medication as well as compression bandages to help control swelling. It is important to follow your doctor’s post-operative instructions. This helps to ensure proper healing, to reduce possibility of infection, and to achieve the best aesthetic results.

In the days following your surgery, you should avoid aspirin, blood thinners, or anti-inflammatory medications. Your doctor will encourage you to begin performing minor movements to promote circulation, but not enough to hinder the recovery process. The initial healing process may involve some swelling, minor bruising, and numbness in the area that SmartLipo was performed.

The bruising and numbness will disappear quickly, within hours or a few days depending on the patient. The swelling will go down within a week, when you will most likely be able to resume normal activity.

Once swelling is completely diminshed, the healing process is considered complete.
