After your Breast Augmentation (Breast Enlargement), you may be placed in a surgical dressing which will be removed within several days. You may need to wear a support bra or compression garment for several days. It is important to follow your doctor’s post-operative care instructions. This helps to ensure proper healing, to reduce possibility of infection, and to achieve the best aesthetic results from your Breast Augmentation (Breast Enlargement).

Recovery

The initial healing process may involve some discoloration and swelling, but this will disappear quickly. The first few days following the surgery you may feel stiff and sore in the chest region. Most swelling will resolve within a month. Light activity may be resumed in 7 days and more strenuous activities may be resumed in 3-6 weeks.

Breast Augmentation Recovery:

  • Compression or Sports Bra required: At least 3 weeks
  • Return to work/driving: Usually 1 week
  • Restricted activities: At least 3 weeks (no strenuous activity or heavy lifting)

There is an immediate difference in breast size following a Breast Augmentation. Some of the appearance of enlargment may be due to swelling which takes a couple of weeks to go away. It will be at least 6-8 weeks of recovery before the breasts start to take on their natural shape. Over the first few months, implants settle into place and soften while the muscles begin to relax. After this period of time, the breasts will begin to look more natural.

Any scars resulting from your Breast Augmentation incisions may remain firm and pink for several weeks and could take several months to fade. Unfortunately these scars will never fade completely. Where these scars appear is determined by the chosen incision site and how your breast implants are placed. Breast Augmentation incisions can be skillfully positioned by a qualified surgeon so they leave scars that are hard to detect and can remain hidden, even while wearing a bikini. It's important to follow your doctor's post-op instructions. Doing so can significantly reduce the risk of noticable scars.

As with any surgical procedure, Breast Augmentation surgery carries its own risks of complication. Your plastic surgeon or a member of their staff will explain these risks in detail before you make the decision to proceed with a Breast Augmentation.
