Breast Augmentation
Side Effects and Risks
The risks associated with Breast Augmentation can include: reactions to the anesthesia, scarring, fluid accumulation or bleeding under the skin (hematoma), infection, poor healing of incisions, a temporary or permanent change in nipple or breast sensation and/or the formation of scar tissue around the implant (capsular contracture). Discomfort or pain can sometimes persist after Breast Augmentation surgery. In severe cases, blood clots, deep vein thrombosis or other cardiac and pulmonary complications can present themselves following Breast Enlargement surgery. To reduce the risk of blood clot formation in your legs it is important to walk a few minutes every few hours following a Breast Augmentation.
Complications
While rare, implants used in Breast Augmentations and Enlargements can also leak, rupture or shift position, resulting in the need for additional or revisional surgery to correct the problem. Depending on the situation, wrinkling of the skin over the implant can occur resulting in a less than favorable appearance of the breast. In addition, breast implants may need to be replaced later in life which requires additional surgery.
