Side and Risks
Common Breast Reduction side effects include swelling, bruising, discomfort and moderate pain. Minor bleeding in and around the surgical area is normal. Breast reduction is a surgical procedure and carries the risks of complications common to surgery such as risk of infection or an adverse reaction to anesthesia.
Complications
Complications from Breast Reduction surgery are infrequent and uncommon. Complications can include, but are not limited to: infection, an unnatural or obvious, but correctable asymmetry of the breasts, an uneven height of the areola and nipples between breasts, temporary loss of sensation or feeling in the breasts or nipples that may become permanent, inability to breast feed, poor wound healing (uncommon in healthy, non-smoking patients), unwanted scarring and hematoma - a serious problem involving collection of blood under the skin. If you experience any complications following a Breast Reduction, you should contact your plastic surgeon immediately.
