Breast Lift (Mastopexy)
Side Effects and Risks
For the first few weeks following a Breast Lift, you may experience some swelling and bruising. Swelling and bruising typically subsides in approximately a month, but could take longer. Loss of or decreased sensation in the nipple and areola areas is usually temporary after a Breast Lift. Any loss of sensation or numbness of the breast itself following a Breast lift may subside within six to eight weeks, but it may take more than a year for feeling to return to its pre-operative levels.
Complications
A Breast Lift like all other surgical procedures brings a risk of infection, excessive bleeding or an adverse reaction to anesthesia. While serious complications resulting from a Breast Lift are rare, there are a few complications that are specific to Breast Lift surgery. These complications can include a permanent and predominant scarring of the breasts beyond what is expected, a prolonged temporary or permenent loss of breast and nipple sensation, breast asymmetry or an uneven positioning of the nipples.
