Brachioplasty (Arm Lift)

What to Expect After Surgery (Post-Op)

After your procedure, your doctor or nurse might wrap the arm or use compression garments to help reduce swelling. Swelling of the upper arm and swelling and tingling of the hands is normal and will disappear over time. Your doctor will probably recommend that you keep your arms elevated over your heart for a few days, which will also help reduce swelling. The initial healing process may involve some swelling and tightness of the upper arm, which will go away with time.

You should avoid lifting for the first few days, and no heavy lifting for two weeks. Most individuals are able to resume normal activities within 7 to 10 days. The main drawback to this procedure is the scar at the incision site, which extends from the elbow usually to the arm pit area, either on the inner side or the back of the arm. While this scar will fade over time, it is something to consider when thinking about undergoing a brachioplasty. Medication may be prescribed as needed. You should avoid aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications for the first few days.

It is important to follow your doctor’s post-operative instructions. This helps to ensure proper healing, to reduce possibility of infection, and to achieve the best aesthetic results.
