What to expect after surgery (Post-Op)

Following a lip augmentation, your recovery will depend on which lip augmentation option you choose. For nonsurgical options such as injectables, there is minimal downtime and you can typically resume normal activities and return to work within a day. For some patients it's not uncommon to take two to three days off for recovery. For surgical options such as implants, the recovery period is about a week to 2 weeks, depending on the procedure and the materials used. As with any surgical procedure, it's a good idea to have someone around to assist you for at least the first 24 hours.

Recovery

It is important to follow your doctor’s post-op instructions. This helps to ensure proper healing, reduces possibility of infection, and helps achieve the best aesthetic results. You'll be asked to apply ice packs to your lips for the first 48 hours and to take any antibiotics or pain medication as instructed. As part of your post-operactive care, you'll may be asked to sleep in a slightly elevated position for the first week and to avoid strenuous activities or actions that place pressure upon the lips. You shouldn't take aspirin or drink alcohol for at least 2 weeks following a lip augmentation procedure. Depending on the procedure, you may have other instructions.
