Lip Augmentation
Side Effects and Risks
Common side effects from lip augmentation are mild discomfort, swelling, bruising and redness or momentary bleeding around the lips. As with any surgical procedure, reaction to anesthesia is always a concern.
The most common side-effects of a lip augmentation are some pain, bruising and/or swelling. If you're having injections, any pain and swelling usually lasts a few days. Swelling and bruising can sometimes last longer. Patients receiving grafts or lip implants as part of a surgical lip augmentation may require up to weeks to recover. If you're having a surgical procedure done as part of your lip augmentation, you can expect swelling to remain for 3 to 9 months depending on the procedure. If a lip augmentation is performed in conjunction with another procedure, the overall recovery time will vary considerably.
Complications
Complications from lip augmentations are rare but can include infection, allergic reactions, lumping, hard spots where fillers don't completely absorb, unwanted scarring, numbness, cold sores, permanent stiffness of the lip, an asymmetrical appearance of the lips, loss of the natural lip line and migration or rejection of an implant.
