Necklift
Side Effects and Risks
Necklifts are generally safe with a very rare occurrence of serious effects. As with any surgery patients choosing to undergo a necklift risk infection, developing blood clots and possible allergic reactions to surgical anesthesia. After a necklift, your plastic surgeon will give you specific instructions which typically include monitoring your temperature and signs to watch for at the incision sites. Any changes or indications of complication and excessive pain should be reported to your plastic surgeon immediately.
You should expect to see swelling and bruising that usually peaks and persists during the first 3-5 days after necklift surgery. In addition to swelling and bruising, other common reactions to necklift surgery can include: tingling, burning or cold sensations, sporadic sharp pains, pulling, stiffness of the neck and a noticeable change in facial movement and soreness when swallowing. These are all normal reactions that subside within the first few weeks after a necklift.
Complications
Complications from necklift surgery can include: unwanted scarring or excess scar tissue, an overly tight drawing of the skin on the neck, the unwanted appearance or impression of having vertical cords under the skin, asymmetry, lumpiness, skin puckering, a mottling of the skin and temporary numbness that becomes permanent. While not a "complication", some patients may simply be dissatisfied with the results.
