Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping)
What happens after you meet your surgeon?
After your rhinoplasty (nose job) consultation, you'll meet with a patient care or surgical coordinator to receive a quote and review options for scheduling your Rhinoplasty (nose job). Many practices perform rhinoplasty (nose job) surgery within a nearby hospital, accredited office-based surgery center, or an ambulatory surgery center outside of the office.
You should leave your surgeon’s office with a solid understanding of Rhinoplasty surgery, detailed instructions on what to do before your Rhinoplasty (nose job), post-operative care instructions, and consents to sign and return regarding anesthesia and surgery. Before your Rhinoplasty (nose job) you will want to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with you following surgery for at least the first night. A post-op care facility for plastic and cosmetic surgery patients may also be an option.
You may need to get certain lab work performed and/or receive a medical evaluation from your physician prior to a rhinoplasty (nose job). You'll be asked to stop smoking prior to a Rhinoplasty (nose job), and to discontinue the use of aspirin, herbal supplements, and other drugs that increase bleeding.
During a Rhinoplasty (nose job) the surgeon reshapes the nose by removing or adding bone and cartilage to the nose. Bone and cartilage added during a rhinoplasty (nose job) is usually taken from another part of the patient's body and grafted into place. An artificial implant may be used to help re-shape the nose. A nose job is performed through an incision in the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or just under the nose (open rhinoplasty) across the tissue separating the nostrils. In an open rhinoplasty this is the area where you may see a tiny scar.
